Stainless steel solar cylinders differ from copper cylinders in a few ways. The most obvious one is the material of which its constructed. The grade of stainless steel is a little higher than grade 316.
The main advantage with using a stainless steel cylinder over a copper cylinder is due to its extremely good corrosion resistance. Stainless steel solar cylinders can be offered providing 20year warranties.
The other main difference with stainless steel is that it can take much higher pressures. Mains water pressure water range from 1-4 bar throughout Ireland. Generally stainless steel cylinders are rated up to 6 bar, and factory tested to 9 bar.
If you have a high pressure or "un-vented" hot water system, you must use stainless steel.
Sometimes, people wish to upgrade their hot water system in the house to high pressure. This can help provide a more easily controllable hot water supply to manually mixed showers.
Midland Heating & Plumbing can supply, install, and commission all types of stainless steel cylinders for interfacing with solar collectors, boilers, and heat pumps.
